National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) was established in March 1991 for the promotion of higher scientific education in the country, especially in the fields of science and technology, by providing a stable and disciplined academic environment together with need-based research, pertinent to industrial requirements. The University was granted its Charter in 1993. Over the years, the university has expanded in scope, services and stature, and has emerged as a leading comprehensive university in the public sector.
Within two decades, NUST has achieved important milestones and gained immense significance as an institution of higher education in Pakistan. The University produces professionals and researchers of high calibre, capable of developing indigenous technologies to meet the growing demands of the 21st century. It is envisioned to grow as a centre of excellence for the country’s scientific and technological progress. An outstanding feature of the University is that while maintaining traditional values of excellence in teaching and research, it challenges conventional practices and creates new ways of developing and delivering courses, pertaining to emerging and cutting-edge disciplines, on most modern lines.
NUST has 1 Main Campus and 6 Site Campuses with the total Main Campus area of 2,856,987 m2. Out of this total area provided, 416,812 m2 is covered by vegetation. NUST Main Campus is situated in Islamabad, Federal Capital of Pakistan, 1 Site Campus is in Karachi, 2 are in Risalpur and 3 Site Campuses are in Rawalpindi. A new campus in Quetta, Balochistan, is under development; the objective being to bring students from the underserved areas of Balochistan into mainstream education and giving them access to world-class education at affordable rates.
Cross ventilation is embedded in all NUST building designs. This allows for more access to air and light which improves the indoor air quality. The wide, airy corridors allow for maximum sunlight penetration and air circulation.

In order to promote healthy life style, NUST offers a number of activities for its students and employees such as horse riding, sports facilities including football, hockey, cricket etc. For improving muscles strength and reducing chances of developing several types of diseases, NUST also provides opportunity of gymnasium, not only for boys but for girls too. Saddle club has also divided its timings and days for giving girls an opportunity to peruse their interest in horse riding. Swimming pool at NUST Main Campus is also under construction and would be functional soon.
Additionally, more than 30 student-centric clubs and societies exist at the H-12 campus, which facilitate students to channel their extra-curricular hobbies and passions in a healthy and value-adding way. Student clubs and societies cover a wide range of areas from Water Sports to Debates, from Environment to Cyber Security, and from Community Service to Dramatics
